Just as bad weather swept through the north-west the previous evening, Manchester City overwhelmed Manchester United aside at the Etihad. It was a convincing three goal win for their manager's side thanks to goals from Knaak, Shaw and Hemp. It was a display that truly announced their championship potential as they consolidated their standing at the WSL pinnacle.

Consecutive Defeats for Manchester United

This scoreline represented successive WSL losses for Marc Skinner’s side for the first time since May 2024, placing them a sizable gap off the table toppers with their title hopes hanging by a thread.

Manchester United's capacity to juggle league and European soccer with a limited squad has been a hotly discussed issue since they secured entry to the European competition. Considering the schedule, it always appeared this was the week that would fully examine this capability.
